After Christmas Party
The Drumgowna School Reunion Committee had their last party of the year on Sunday December 30th. Crowds thronged to The Welcome Inn to see the finale of Guess the Weight, and to view the exhibits up for auction. Old friends from bygone days met up, with a big contingent from Cloone to support Pakie Tom at his weigh in. The committee are most grateful to Pakie Tom for his co-operation and being such a good sport. It proved to be a great fund raiser and was Charlie Reilly’s own initiative: he with his sellers worked very hard selling lines and the committee want to thank all who bought lines and made the effort worthwhile. And Charlie’s entrepreneurship didn’t stop there; he very soon came up with another novel project, and produced a beautiful replica of the school, which fetched an honourable figure at the auction, as did the paintings and other items. Evelyn Mc Veigh’s professional paint brush capturing of the waterfall at Poll-an-éas made a lovely scenic view, and Barbara Niblock’s painting of the Magi on their arrival at Bethlehem is inspirational, while Cathal Reilly’s artistic painting of the school shows some great talent. All of the exhibits have got good homes and will be on display again at the school reunion. Others who donated to the auction were John Mannion, Willie Waters, Joe Mc Manus, Timmy and Bernadette Beirne, Tommy Joe Mulvey, Kerrigans Quarries, Dromahaire, Pat Bohan. Winners of the Guess the Weight are Declan Hagan, Drumlish, Riaghan Guckian, Drumsna, Bernie Collum, Barraghmore, Drumlish and Martina Reilly, Keelagh, Mohill. The prizes were sponsored by Adrian Mc Caffrey Accountant, Mohill, Ralph Lennon “The Welcome Inn”, Lough Rynn Hotel, Irish Angus Society, Carrick on Shannon, Liz and Tom Ward, Fearglass. Raffle prizes were sponsored by Aiden Mc Crann, Cloone, Eddie Mc Govern, Dromard, Cissie Bohan, Noreen Heslin, Jacinta Heslin, and Charlie Reilly. The committee want to thank Ralph for his hospitality, and the singers Maureen Heslin, Bernadette Beirne and Miceal Mc Garry were much enjoyed with their rendering of some favourite old songs, while Tommy and Michael gave a great performance and took us back to the sixties and beyond. The committee are hoping everyone had a good night.

Who knows, when you partake of our appetising after Christmas refreshments you might even put on a bid. Tommy and Michael, with local talent, will entertain us for the night- sounds like it will be a very enjoyable party!
